JOB OPPORTUNITY – SCULPT ARTIST
Eleri Ethaniel

“Vax and I are working on a large, long term project that will need a sculpt artist.  This would be a  fully credited, *compensated* job (although the details of that would be worked out) for someone willing to be part of a team, with deadlines and guidelines and so on. We’d really like to keep it in the ‘family’, as it were, by having one of Uru community on the team. If you, or someone you know might be up to this task, have them drop me (Eleri Ethaniel) a NC (IM’s get capped), so I can send them the info.”

UPDATE TO COMMUNITY BUSINESSES

Issis says she has acquired some Midnight Mania boards so be on the lookout for some neat items to come up weekly at her locations! Park Place Decor L.O.W. this week will be “G” and DeAnn has a very nice Garden Bench for sale.

UPDATE TO EXPLORATION

Malia is working with some private students in addition to her regular schedule. Tichelle has some more MadPea goodness for us! She is helping out in the September MadPea Mushroom Hunt so it is sure to be a good one.

UPDATE TO EVENTS IN SECOND LIFE

White Rose is having her party this Sunday at 1:00 PM and dress will be casual.

UPDATE TO METAVERSAL EVENTS

Ktahdn is going to take us on a Silk Road Journey on Saturday, July 24th – “Prepare yourselves for an epic journey: deserts, mountains, civilizations modern and historic and prehistoric, rivers of sand, rivers of water, rivers of thought.” There will be a special location for Karaoke this Saturday according to Tavish so keep tuned for the location,  the next Karaoke will be on Saturday, July 31 at Two Dancer’s Dome.

CHANGES TO BURNING LIFE
Phillip Linden

What this means, who knows… Burning Life is one of my favorite events of the whole year – after all last year they were honoring the Darwins, lol… (Darwin=Evolution). Well, now it is going to be named Burn 2.0 – not as catchy, certainly and also going to be smaller in scale which is probably not a bad thing overall. From what I have heard, some have left the staff, others have stayed and it will be interesting to see how this year turns out. I plan to be with the Department of Mutant Vehicles and the Lamplighters this year if both continue to exist. I have assurances that the DMV will, but am waiting to hear about the Lamplighters. By the way, note the snail reference in Phillip’s blog! (the snails will be back this year too!)

SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
DMom2K Darwin

A friend emailed this link to me and I was so fascinated by this 1906 video taken four days before the San Francisco earthquake, I just had to share it. Seems even back then, no one could drive…but you can see why the laws developed for traffic, lol.

“1906 San Francisco Street Car Ride… Filmed 4 days before the ’06 earthquake then shipped by train to NY for processing. What an amazing seven minute trip back in time.  The clothing, the vehicles, the traffic chaos…unbelievable film.
Obviously there weren’t any traffic laws back then, because the buggies, wagons, old cars, bicycles, trolleys and pedestrians were going all over the street.  Crazy!  No traffic lights, either. A neat opportunity to enjoy some time travel,  the film is from a streetcar traveling down Market Street in San Francisco, four days before the big earthquake and fire that destroyed the area.  You can clearly see the clock tower at the end of the street at the Embarcadero Wharf that is still there… The film, was originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly when it was shot. From New York trade papers announcing the film showing to the wet streets from recent heavy rainfall & shadows indicating time of year & actual weather and conditions on historical record, even when the cars were registered (he even knows who owned them and when the plates were issued!). View it full screen is best.
