NEWS:

MOUL FORUM CHANGE

I popped in this morning to look at the Cavern Events thread in Off Topic and realized it was gone! When I went back to the main forum screen I saw there is now a whole Cavern Events section! This should make it a lot easier for folk to post what they are doing in one spot instead of having to search the forums all over for items that have gotten buried or have to link to other websites or calendars for information.

D’NI WORD OF THE DAY

Info on note

If you’ve been following the Developments in Devokan thread on MOUL or the blog at http://blog.devokan.net you will have seen that the Devokan team is currently in transition to a new set of regions on the OSgrid.

As a result, two large plots of land, each 6144 m^2 with a prim allowance of 1406 prims, on the beautifully themed Winterfell Reverie island will become available in late March/early April.

Winterfell Reverie is part of the Winterfell group of eleven fantasy medieval sims and three fantasy Tudor/Elizabethan/Victorian sims. To quote the covenant: ‘Winterfell is a twilight fantasy region designed and inspired by stories, dreams and creative interpretations of reality.’ More details about Winterfell (including the covenant) are on its ning site at http://winterfell.ning.com .

Winterfell is to the north of Caledon, so it makes an ideal base for exploration by the extensive waterways (both plots have direct access to river or sea) or by air. Indeed, a ferry system is currently under development to serve the Winterfell community and even reach Caledon Cape Wrath.

If desired, existing buildings could be left on the land (e.g. Rustica Seaside Cottage and Skye Castles Gothic Keep) for people to furnish as they wish. They are lovely buildings, and work well with the island’s architectural theme.

The rent/tier is 3000 L$ per week, payable to a tier box in the Winterfell Estate Office. The estate owner is the helpful and obliging Miss Serra Anansi.

If you are interested or would like more details, please contact Dot Macchi before 24 March. Thanks!

====
PS It’s such a lovely area that I shall be staying here, but in a smaller corner plot. Dot.

SPRING CLEANING SERIES – PART 2
Riana Eiren
We know we eventually have to do it….Riana has some great tips on how to do it.

How much do you know about the history of Spring Cleaning? I wasn’t sure, so I looked it up. I was surprised by some of what I found. Did you know that up to four cultures are responsible for its origins, and that science shows that some of us are compulsive hoarders? Read on for part 2….

History of Spring Cleaning in three parts by Josh Clark, from How Things Work.com

Why do we traditionally clean our homes at the beginning of spring?

by Josh Clark
http://home.howstuffworks.com/spring-clean-in-spring2.htm

It feels almost like a biological imperative. The sun takes a little longer in its descent below the horizon and the chill of winter begins to leave the bones. Without much thought on your part, the couch is moved from its place so you can sweep beneath it and the drapes are suddenly in the washing machine. Disinfectant sprays suddenly attract a new level of interest and you decide your sponges must all be replaced. You’ve awakened from the long winter quasi-hibernation that kept you glued to the television. Now it’s time to thoroughly rid your home of the dirt and dust and dog hair that have accumulated over the long, dark season. You’ve been gripped by the urge to spring clean.

You’re certainly not alone in this strange desire to clean your house. Spring cleaning has become nearly ritualized in the West. Makers of cleaning products ramp up advertising late in the winter. Internet sites and magazines become awash in spring cleaning tips. Public service campaigns for everything from properly disposing of outdated pharmaceuticals in America to removing litter from the Irish countryside are attached to spring cleaning each year. It’s kind of an unconscious, collective movement. Spring cleaning isn’t for everyone, though. Using MRI scans, researchers have determined that when confronted with a decision to throw out possessions — even junk mail — people who’ve been diagnosed as compulsive hoarders show activity in the same region of the brain that’s responsible for processing damaging and unpleasant experiences (source – New England Hoarding Consortium). An estimated one to two percent of the population in the United States are compulsive hoarders, who accumulate and refuse to throw out large collections of everything from newspapers to paper clips (Sacramento Magazine).

For people who don’t have a hoarding compulsion, spring cleaning seems almost compulsive in itself. The sense of cleanliness and accomplishment that comes from scouring the house also brings something like a neurological reward from the brain. There isn’t any documented medical evidence that spring cleaning is a compulsion; rather, it seems to be rooted in tradition more than anything else. Exactly why do we traditionally clean our homes at the beginning of spring? Those of us in the West may be surprised to find that it’s possibly rooted in customs found in the East. Learn about these possible origins to spring cleaning today in tomorrow’s newsletter.

Folder organization suggestions: catagories (stores, events, info) names (who sent them to you) dates (when you got them or when you need to respond to them by)
——————————————————————————-
1. Make yourself a “to do list”–maybe even a monthly one, if it helps you, so that you can update it and move undone things to the new one. It can be as orderly or disorderly as you like, in an outline form or a simple list.
——————————————————————————-
2. Use the notes section in your profile to make yourself notes about whatever you need–see a great item? Write down the name of the creator! Even look them up and write down a note to yourself in the notes section of *their* profile. That means less in your inventory.
——————————————————————————-
*protip* Use your “Calling Cards” to write notes in all your friends and colleague’s profiles–less to remember, and you can add info there instead of keeping so many notecards. Another benefit is that you can easily access and check it when you see them instead of having to look for it because you already know where it is!
——————————————————————————-
3. Lost Landmarks? Try this: organize by frequency of use.
Have a folder for your favorite stores and keep them separate from all the “store catchall” folder–no more searching for the important ones!
——————————————————————————-
4. Other suggestions: Friends, Events, Building sites/materials, Clubs/fun, libraries, classes, hunts, freebies–or how about “to explore” for all those LMs ppl give you to explore later?
